“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…it’s about learning to dance in the rain” – Anon.
My best friend Danni and I were leaving our last class at uni for the night and as we walked out of the building we realised it was raining. Like, POURING-DOWN-LIKE-CRAZY-STAY-INSIDE-IF-YOU-CAN raining. But Danni and I, we aren’t the type to just sit around and let opportunities to act like little kids have a little bit of sensible fun pass us by – rain or no rain!
So while all the other students huddled under awnings and doorways fretting about the downpour, we launched ourselves outside into the thick of it. And let me tell you, it was GREAT! We were splashing each other, jumping in puddles, dancing, skipping, sliding over concrete in our Havaianas (which was probably not the smartest move, considering Danni has a spacky knee that pops out whenever it feels like it), and generally laughing, shouting and carrying on, all the way down into Parkwood where our cars were waiting for us.
It was such a lovely moment to share with Danni (she’s one of the few adults who actually look for excuses to play in the rain!) and this little bit of fun together reaffirmed our connection and love for each other. Something a simple as playing in the rain reminded me why I love her so much and why she’s one of my best friends <insert ‘major gratitude’ tag here>.
Instead of playing it safe and waiting for the rain to pass, Danni and I took a chance and (literally) danced in the rain. It was such an un-planned, unexpected, trivial, silly moment …but it was fun! And sometimes, I think that’s just what the Universe wants for us – to have a little bit of spontaneous fun; just to laugh and let go of the reigns a little bit…and to dance xoxo
